Rhode Island College

Josh Bland begins his second season as an assistant men's basketball coach at Rhode Island College.

Bland was the varsity coach for the Rhode Island Magic AAU program for two seasons. He spent two seasons as the athletic director and head boys’ basketball coach at City on a Hill Public Charter High School (New Bedford, Mass.).
 
He has a wealth of college coaching experience, most recently serving as the assistant coach at Oberlin College (Ohio) from 2013-17. He helped coach the Yeomen to the program’s best record in 30 years during the 2015-16 season.
 
Bland was the associate head men’s basketball coach at Bridgeport from 2002-11. The Purple Knights averaged over 20 wins per season, earned six NCAA Div. II Tournament appearances and he helped recruit and develop nearly 30 professional players during his tenure.
 
He served as an assistant coach at Div. I Yale from 2000-02 and helped the Bulldogs win their first Ivy League title since 1962.
 
He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Fort Lewis College in 1998.
 
In addition to his coaching duties, Bland is a biology teacher at Highlander Charter School (Providence).
 
Bland resides in Providence with his wife and son.
