THE BASICS

Rhode Island College (1-0)
Salem State (0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC's, 10-3, run in the middle of the first set off back-to-back kills by fifth-year middle hitter Bethanie Jean-Philippe (Cranston, R.I.) and senior outside hitter Marina Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) pushed the hosts out to a 1-0 set lead.

• The Anchorwomen opened the second set on fire, catapulting ahead to a 17-6 lead thanks to a big kill by senior middle hitter Andrayah Williams (North Providence, R.I.).

• The hosts would close out the second frame with momentum on a service ace by junior defensive specialist Caroline Morrell (Gorham, Maine) and a kill by Colonis.

• The Vikings built a heap of momentum in the third period after the Anchorwomen jumped ahead, 10-5, but it was ended by junior pin hitter Olivia Rollinson (Coventry, R.I.) who closed out the game's final point with her 10th kill of the night, which is one shy of her career-high.

• Senior setters Yuleisy Alvelo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Grace Luchka (North Scituate, R.I.) combined for 35 assists with 19 and 16, respectively.
