RIC Blanks UMass Boston to Advance to Little East Championship Final

Providence, R.I.—Freshman John Vaughan (East Providence, R.I.) clinched a 4-0 win as No. 2-seeded Rhode Island College defeated No. 3-seeded UMass Boston in the semifinals of the 2026 Little East Men's Tennis Championship at the RIC Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts grinded out a pair of 7-5 win at No. 2 and 3 doubles to take the pairs point heading into singles action. Vaughan and senior Sairaj Srinivasan (Cedar Grove, N.J.) won at No. 3 doubles.
 
• Sophomore No. 1 singles Travis Chartier (Rehoboth, Mass.) won in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) and classmate James McShane (Riverside, R.I.) followed with a straight set (6-1, 6-1) win at fourth singles.
 
• Vaughan clinched the win with a straight set (6-4, 6-2) victory at fifth singles.
 
• RIC advances to play in the Little East Championship final for the fourth consecutive season.

In upcoming action, second-seeded Rhode Island College will travel to No. 1-seeded Bridgewater State for the 2026 Little East Men's Tennis Championship final on Saturday, May 2 (1 p.m.).
