Kissimmee, Fla.--Sophomore third baseman
Gabrielle Sweeney (Shirley, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the Rhode Island College Softball team opened the 2026 season with an, 8-3, win against St. Scholastica at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Saints opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first, but the Anchorwomen answered right back in the next frame as Sweeney evened the game with a two-run double.
• Junior right fielder
Sydney Duclos (North Providence, R.I.) broke the game open as she singled in the fourth, which led RIC to a six-run inning and an 8-2 advantage.
• Duclos went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while sophomore first baseman
Jillian Guilfoyle (Derby, Conn.) also went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI and a walk.
• Freshman pitcher
Mia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) earned her first collegiate win (1-0) with four innings of scoreless relief.
