Bailey's 26 Digs Help Lead RIC Past Framingham State, 3-2

Providence, R.I.--Junior libero Carolyn Bailey (Ipswich, Mass.) posted a team-high 26 digs and handed out five assists, while classmate outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) posted a double-double with 21 kills and 15 digs, as Rhode Island College outlasted Framingham State, 3-2, on Thursday evening at The Murray Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts squandered a 23-19 lead in the opening set, allowing the Rams to rip off six straight points and win by a pair, 25-23.
 
• RIC took the next two stanzas (25-11, 25-20), before Framingham State evened the contest, 2-2, with a win in the fourth set (25-20).
 
• The Anchorwomen built an 11-4 advantage in the decisive fifth set before the Rams closed the gap to three points, 12-9. Kills by senior middle hitter Sydnee Pires (Rochester, Mass.) and junior middle hitter Andrayah Williams (North Providence, R.I.) pushed FSU to the brink and a Ram hitting error clinched the win for the hosts.
 
• Marines was outstanding on offense, making just one hitting error in 38 attempts to go along with her match-high 21 winners.
 
• Williams finished with 17 kills and seven blocks. Sophomore libero Caroline Morrell (Gorham, Maine) racked up seven service aces and six digs.
 
• Junior setter Yuleisy Alvelo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) posted a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Emmanuel (11 a.m.) and Westfield State (3 p.m.) in a tri-meet on Saturday, Sept. 6.
