HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• Both teams started the hit count in the second inning, but it was the Beacons who answered the call as an error put a pair of runners on and a single would bring one in.
Â
• UMB continued to put runs across in the third frame with three singles for a pair of runs to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
Â
• The Anchormen failed to answer before the fifth inning as the Beacons tacked on three more marks.
Â
• The hosts extended their lead to nine in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run homer homer.
Â
• Fifth-year right fielder
Justin Wardwell (Westport, Mass.) belted a solo shot to right center field in the ninth to give the Anchormen their lone score.
• Fifth-year pitcher
Terry Murray (Norfolk, Mass.) was saddled with the loss (1-4).
Â
GAME TWO
• Nine Beacon runs in the first three innings put the Anchormen back on their heels right off the bat in the nightcap.
Â
• UMB scored one in the fourth and three in the fifth to help end the game early due to the 10-run rule.
Â
• Rivera would hit his solo shot in the top of the seventh inning.
• Sophomore pitcher
Jason Potvin (Tiverton, R.I.) was handed the loss (1-1).
