Rhode Island College (5-1)
Bridgewater State (1-2)
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC was able to get out to an early, 13-8, lead, thanks to seven first-half points from junior guard
Meagan Schuermann (Cooperstown, N.Y.), but was not able to hold the advantage going into the second stanza as BSU led by one, 18-16.
Â
• As the first half came to an end, the visitors were unable to hold their lead as the Anchorwomen outrebounded the Bears, 17-5, in just the second quarter alone, to give them a five-point, 33-28, lead after 20 minutes.
Â
• Six points from Yekelchik in the third quarter put the Anchorwomen in the driver's seat for the rest of the game.
Â
• RIC shot 79 percent from the field in the final frame, which gave the club all the momentum they needed to close out their fourth consecutive victory and head into the Thanksgiving break with a 5-1 record.
• Schuermann and sophomore guard
Shalyn Smith (Middletown, Conn.) equaled Yekelchik's offensive output with 17 points apiece.
