HOW IT HAPPENED
• Freshman midfielder
Julian Orellana (Providence, R.I.) had the game's first shot as he squared one up just outside the 18-yard box, but his attempt went wide during the third minute.
Â
• The Wolves netted the first goal in the 51st minute, but the Anchormen came back in the 67th minute as Sanches received the ball in the six-yard box from senior defender
Daniel Grzybacz (Cumberland, R.I.) to equalize the contest.
Â
• Just over a minute later, Sanches doubled his goal tally at two with a one-time shot off a deflection to give the hosts a, 2-1, lead. It marked the first time WestConn had trailed in a conference matchup this season.
Â
• Within the final five minutes of the match, the visitors put away the Anchormen with a pair of goals, one stemming from a throw-in and the other coming off a counter attack, to keep the hosts winless in league play.
• Freshman goalkeeper
Shane Merklein (Mullica Hill, N.J.) faced 21 shots and made six saves in the loss (1-3-3).
