HOW IT HAPPENED
• Freshman midfielder
Hannah Rezendes (Bristol, R.I.) netted her first collegiate goal in the 21
st minute to get the scoring started for the hosts. Senior goalkeeper
Chloe Angelone (Bayville, N.Y.) punted a long ball to midfield that bounced to junior forward
Tayshia Cary (Wakefield, R.I.), who then fed Rezendes for the marker.
Â
• Almeida put the hosts up, 2-0, in the 34
th minute. Junior defender
Karen Johnson-Hoffman (Groton, Conn.) took a free kick about 10-yards out from the endline in Curry's defensive zone. She fired a low pass that was deftly re-directed by senior midfielder
Marissa Ruzzano (Smithfield, R.I.) right to Almeida for the goal.
Â
• Curry was awarded a penalty kick in the 54
th minute after a foul in the box and scored to pull within one, 2-1.
Â
• The Anchorwomen stifled any comeback attempt by the visitors over the final five minutes, controlling the ball deep in Curry territory and forcing numerous throw-ins as the clock wound down.
Â
• Angelone made three saves to earn her third win (3-1) and picked up her first collegiate point with the assist on Rezendes' goal.
