Kidd and Earley Lead RIC Past UMass Boston, 4-1

Providence, R.I.—Junior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) struck out 11 to earn her 10th win and freshman left fielder Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) went 1-for-2 with two RBI as Rhode Island College downed UMass Boston, 4-1, in game one of a Little East doubleheader played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Junior shortstop Amanda Conti (Lincoln, R.I.) singled and scored on senior first baseman Katelyn Ashe's (Colchester, Conn.) double down the left field line in the bottom of the first inning.
 
• RIC used a three-run third inning to snap a 1-1 deadlock. Freshman designated player Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) got the offense going with an RBI single and Earley plated a pair with a two-run single.
 
• Kidd (10-0) was solid, allowing just one run on five hits, as the she handed the Beacons their first Little East setback of the season.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play game two of its twinbill with the Beacons (5 p.m.).
