Corsairs Hand Anchorwomen First Little East Setback

Providence, R.I.—Sophomore second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a double as Rhode Island College fell, 4-3, vs. UMass Dartmouth in Little East action played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rhode Island College fell behind, 4-0, as the Corsairs scored twice in both the fifth and sixth innings.
 
• Senior third baseman Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) pulled the hosts within a pair with a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth.
 
• RIC loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the sixth. Freshman left fielder Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) brought in one with a sacrifice fly, but UMD kept the potential tying run at third, while getting the next two outs, to hand the Anchorwomen their first league setback.
 
• Junior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) suffered her first loss (14-1) of the season.
 
• Freshman catcher Brianna Bailey (Windsor, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play game two of its doubleheader vs. the Corsairs (6 p.m.).
