Beacons Down Anchormen, 11-5, in Nightcap

Providence, R.I.—Freshman designated hitter Cameron Early (Worcester, Mass.) stayed hot by going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Rhode Island College baseball team lost, 11-5, vs. UMass Boston in the second game of a Little East doubleheader played at Pontarelli Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Beacons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a two-run home run. The Anchormen would respond with a three-run second inning, led by junior catcher Lucas Pierce's (Chepachet, R.I.) two-run single, to take a 3-2 lead.
 
• UMass Boston put the game out of reach by smacking a pair of two-run homers in the sixth inning.
 
• Sophomore second Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) notched an RBI fielder's choice and senior left fielder Cole Podedworny (Wakefield, R.I.) registered a sacrifice fly as part of a two-run bottom of the ninth for the hosts.
 
• Junior starter Liam Dailey (Franklin, Mass.) pitched 5.1 innings in the loss (2-2).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Western Connecticut on Tuesday, April 23 (3:30 p.m.).
