Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went 2-for-5 with two doubles as the Rhode Island College softball team defeated Plymouth State in the second game of a Little East twinbill, 17-9, on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The offense started hot and never slowed down. The two teams combined for seven runs in the first inning, with the Anchorwomen holding a 4-3 advantage.

• The Anchorwomen would keep their foot on the pedal, going up by five, 8-3, in the third inning. The Panthers would respond by scoring five unanswered runs, which included four in the fourth inning, to tie the game, 8-8.

• Senior third baseman
Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) would kick off a four-run fifth inning for RIC with a solo home run to help the Anchorwomen rebuild a 12-8 lead.

• Simmons and sophomore right fielder
Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) would each hit two-run doubles late in the game to give RIC insurance.

• Junior pitcher
Taylor Babcock (East Providence, R.I.) earned the win (9-0) after going 2.2 innings and striking out four batters.

Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
