Gorham, Maine—Sophomore second baseman
Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and five RBI as the Rhode Island College softball team won the first game of a Little East doubleheader at Southern Maine, 11-0 (five innings), on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen took the initial lead in the second inning on an RBI single by freshman left fielder
Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.).
• RIC would break the game open with a five-run third inning, which included a bases-clearing double by sophomore right fielder
Sarah Mickelson (New Milford, Conn.).
• The Simmons homer put RIC up, 11-0, in the top of the fifth, which enacted the eight-run rule, ending the game.
• Junior pitcher
Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) pitched all five innings and struck out four batters (14-0).
• Mickelson went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a double and three RBI. Freshman designated player
Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI.
