Brianna Bailey (Windsor, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with a run scored, a home run and three RBI as Rhode Island College opened Little East play with a 10-3 win over Western Connecticut in game one of a doubleheader at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC scored three times in the top of the first as senior first baseman
Katelyn Ashe (Colchester, Conn.) had an RBI ground out and Bailey registered an RBI single.
• A five-run fourth inning, highlighted by an Ashe two-run double and a Bailey infield RBI single, helped the hosts build a 9-0 lead.
• WestConn scored three-runs in the top of the fifth to prolong the game. Bailey hit a solo blast in the sixth.
• Junior pitcher
Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) did not allow an earned run, allowing just three hits and striking out 10, to secure her eighth win (8-0) on the year.
• Senior center fielder
Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
