RIC Takes Game One vs. Johnson and Wales, 6-2

Providence, R.I.—Freshman pinch hitter Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) smacked a three-run home run as Rhode Island College took game one of a doubleheader at Johnson and Wales, 6-2, on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Earley homered in the top of the fourth to put the visitors on top, 4-0.
 
• Senior first baseman Katelyn Ashe (Colchester, Conn.) notched an RBI ground out in the sixth and sophomore second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) doubled in a run in the seventh as the Anchorwomen built a 6-0 advantage.
 
• The Wildcats put two across against RIC junior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) in the seventh, but would get no closer. Kidd allowed just five hits and struck out 13 in her fifth (5-0) win of the season.
 
• Sophomore center fielder Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) went 2-for-4. Junior left fielder Sarah Mickelson (New Milford, Conn.) went 1-for-2 with a run scored, a walk and a triple.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play game two of the doubleheader at Johnson & Wales (6 p.m.).
