Women's Lacrosse Falls vs. Maine-Farmington in Season Opener

Providence, R.I.—Senior midfielder Emily Marino (Cheshire, Conn.) scored all four of the Anchorwomen's goals as Rhode Island College opened the 2024 women's lacrosse campaign with a 17-4 setback vs. Maine-Farmington at Alumni Stadium on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Beavers jumped out to a quick, 3-0, lead before the game was five minutes old. UMF was able to end the first quarter with a 7-1 lead.
 
• The offense was relentless for the Beavers as the visitors built up an 11-1 halftime advantage.
 
• Freshman defender Fiona Baxter (East Greenwich, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen with five ground balls and played the second half in net, recording six saves.
 
 • Marino led the hosts with seven draw controls.
 
• RIC freshman goalkeeper Giana Franco (Salem, Conn.) recorded 10 saves in a losing effort (0-1) and earned her first collegiate point with an assist on Marino's first goal.
 
• Freshmen attackers Livia Sweeney (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Hiromi Flores (Central Falls, R.I.) picked up their first collegiate points with assists.
 
• UMF sophomore defender Ashlee Farrar (South Paris, Maine.) had five goals and one assist for six points to go along with a game-high six ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Kate Nowell (York, Maine.) made three saves in the win (1-0).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Dean on Tuesday, March 5 (3 p.m.).
