Anchorwomen Advance to Little East Women's Basketball Championship Final for Fifth Straight Season

Providence, R.I.--Senior guard Madison Medbury (Scituate, R.I.) scored 15 points to go along with four steals, three assists and two rebounds as top-seeded Rhode Island College defeated fourth-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 67-40, in the semifinals of the 2024 Little East Women's Basketball Championship at The Murray Center on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen, ranked No. 3 in the nation, jumped out to a hot start in the first quarter and built a 20-6 lead after 10 minutes of action.
 
• The second quarter was a struggle offensively for both clubs. The two teams shot a combined 4-for-30 from the field for just 12 total points. There was a stretch of 5:02, more than half the quarter, with no scoring by either squad. RIC led by 12, 25-13, at halftime.
 
• The offenses woke up in the third frame, with Medbury draining eight points in the quarter to lead the Anchorwomen to a 20-point lead, 51-31, entering the final 10 minutes.
 
• A 12-2 run by RIC in the middle of the fourth quarter sealed the deal for the Anchorwomen.
 
• Graduate guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, Mass.) finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block.
 
• Fifth-year forward Izabelle Booth (Newport, R.I.) totaled 13 points, five boards and three assists. She needs nine points to reach 1,000 for her career.
 
• The Anchorwomen will face No. 20 UMass Dartmouth in the finals in a rematch of the 2022 contest. It is the fifth straight year that RIC has reached the finals as the Anchorwomen will be looking to win their fourth straight LEC Tournament title.
 
• RIC's 26-game winning streak is the longest in program history. The Anchorwomen have won 23 consecutive games at The Murray Center.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, No. 1-seeded Rhode Island College will face No. 2-seeded UMass Dartmouth in the finals of the 2024 Little East Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday, Feb. 24 (1 p.m.) at The Murray Center.
