Western Connecticut Downs Anchormen, 5-0, in Regular Season Finale

Danbury, Conn.--Senior goalkeeper Wesley Perrotto (Pembroke, Mass.) made four saves as Rhode Island College lost, 5-0, vs. Western Connecticut at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was the regular season finale for both clubs. Each squad came into today's action with identical, 6-1, conference records, with the winner claiming the outright Little East Regular Season Championship.
 
• Junior forward Ian Mounts (Middletown, Conn.) scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 16th minute.
 
• WestConn gained the advantage when a second yellow card issued in the first half, forced Rhode Island College to play with 10 players over the final 56 minutes.
 
• The hosts capitalized on the situation and outshot RIC, 8-0, in the first half.
 
• With RIC down, 2-0, in the 66th minute, junior back Lucas Duquette (Wakefield, R.I.) had a scoring chance off a corner-kick set-piece, but his header was turned aside.
 
• The hosts scored three times in the second half to win the LEC Regular Season title and garner the No. 1 seed in the upcoming tournament.
 
• WestConn outshot the Anchormen, 19-7, on the day.
 
• Perrotto was dealt the loss (8-4-1).
 
• WCSU junior goalkeeper Zachary Benson (Milford, Conn.) made three saves in the win (11-1-1).

In upcoming action, No. 3 Rhode Island College will host No. 6 VTSU Castleton in first round action of the 2024 Little East Men's Soccer Championship at Alumni Stadium on Tuesday, Nov. 5 (5 p.m.).
