Boston, Mass.--Rhode Island College exploded for seven runs in the third inning to defeat UMass Boston, 7-3, in the first leg of a Little East softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen took advantage of a multitude of Beacon errors and miscues to bring across seven runs in the third inning. Sophomore right fielder
Paige Jones (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) knocked in two with a base hit in the inning.

Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) was rock solid for the first five innings. She gave up a few runs in the final innings of the game, but was able to notch double-digit strikeouts and earn her 11th win of the year (11-7).

• Jones went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Cassidy Schoen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) smacked a double and drove in a run as well.
