Anchorwomen Cap Regular Season in, 4-1, Loss at UMass Boston

RIC Moves on to Little East Championship on May 10

Boston, Mass.—Rhode Island College dropped the second game of a Little East softball doubleheader, 4-1, in the regular season finale for both clubs on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UMB jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings.
 
• Freshman pitcher Gabby Cunha (Cranston, R.I.) was able to settle down and keep the Beacons scoreless for the remainder of the game.
 
• The Anchorwomen finally got on the board in the fourth inning when senior catcher Alexis Boyce (Wolcott, Conn.) knocked in freshman second baseman Noelle Simmons (Manchester N.H.).
 
• Cunha went the distance and was saddled with the loss (2-4).
 
• Junior center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) led the team with two hits.
 
• The Anchorwomen will move on to the 2023 Little East Championship, the program's first appearance in the league's postseason tournament since 2014.
 
• With 18 wins on the season, the Anchorwomen have won the most games in a season since the 2019 campaign (17 wins).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, No. 5 Rhode Island College will face No. 4 Castleton in game one of the 2023 Little East Softball Championship, hosted by Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday, May 10 (noon).
