Anchormen Eliminate Southern Maine With, 3-2, Win to Advance in Little East Championship

Providence, R.I.—Senior pitcher Colin Gauthier (Pawtucket, R.I.) hurled 5.2 innings of scoreless relief, while junior third baseman Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.) knocked in what proved to be the game-winning run, as No. 1-seeded Rhode Island College eliminated No. 3-seeded Southern Maine, 3-2, in game seven of the 2023 Little East Baseball Championship played at Pontarelli Field on Friday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Huskies scored a run in both the third and fourth innings to build a 2-0 advantage. Junior center fielder Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) notched an RBI single in the fifth to pull the Anchormen within a run, 2-1.
 
• In the seventh with the bases loaded, freshman second baseman Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) tied the game on an RBI fielder's choice ground out. Parrillo followed with an RBI single to put the Anchormen ahead.
 
• Gauthier came on in the fourth and allowed just five hits, while striking out six, to pick up his third win (3-2) and keep the Anchormen alive in the tourney.
 
• Junior catcher David Iannuccilli (Johnston, R.I.) and classmate right fielder Sean Helfrich (Saunderstown, R.I.) each went 2-for-4 on the day.

• The Anchormen registered their 30th win of the season, which is a new program record for a single season.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face No. 2-seeded Eastern Connecticut in game nine of the LEC Championship later this afternoon (3:30 p.m.).
