Dartmouth, Mass.--Freshman second baseman Noelle Simmons (Manchester, N.H.) went 1-for-3 with an RBI as Rhode Island College dropped game one of a Little East doubleheader, 2-1, at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when junior center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) walked, was sacrificed to third and came home on Simmons' RBI single.
 
• Sophomore pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) kept the Corsairs at bay until the fifth when UMD smacked a pair of solo home runs to go on top, 2-1.
 
• UMD graduate pitcher Jill Richards (Kingston, Mass.) allowed just one run on two hits to pick up her fifth win (5-6).
 
• Kidd struck out five in the loss (5-5).
