Providence, R.I.—Freshman second baseman
Noelle Simmons (Manchester, N.H.) went 2-for-4 and knocked in the game-clinching run with a walk-off single as Rhode Island College downed Salem State, 8-0 (five innings), in game one of a doubleheader played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen scored a run in all but one inning on the day. RIC did most of its damage in the second stanza as Simmons knocked in a pair with a double and junior first baseman
Katelyn Ashe (Colchester, Conn.) plated two with a single as part of a five-run frame.
• The Anchorwomen loaded the bases in the home half of the fifth and Simmons singled down the third base line to end the game early.
• Sophomore right fielder
Paige Jones (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double, while junior center fielder
Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
• Sophomore pitcher
Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) went four innings, allowed just three hits and struck out seven, to secure her eighth (8-5) win.
