Anchormen Defeat UMass Boston, 87-72

Providence, R.I.--Freshman guard CJ Wilson (Hartford, R.I.) recorded a season-high 18 points, while also tabulating down eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals as Rhode Island College defeated UMass Boston, 87-72, in Little East action played at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchormen jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first five minutes, with senior forward Ousmane Kourouma (Woonsocket, R.I.) scoring seven of those points.
 
• A pair of three-point shots by junior guard Isiah McCallam (Orange, N.J.), as well as 13 points from Kourouma, in the first half gave RIC a 35-28 lead going into halftime.
 
• The second half was constantly stopping and starting, with both teams combining for 31 personal fouls in the second half. RIC shot 19-for-23 from the line in the second half, while the Beacons went 13-for-18.
 
• The Anchormen held a double-digit advantage down the stretch, hit late free throws and stayed stout defensively to earn the win and improve to 3-0 vs. Little East opposition.
 
• Kourouma would finish with a season-high 23 points, to go along with 12 rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist.
 
• McCallam registered 13 points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Dion Hazard (Riverside, R.I.) posted a career-best 13 points to go along with five boards.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Nichols on Monday, Dec. 11 (5 p.m.).
