Amherst, Mass.—Rhode Island College junior guard Deyshawn Tengbeh (East Providence, R.I.) racked up a game-high 26 points and hauled in eight rebounds as the Anchormen defeated Amherst, 74-65, at LeFrak Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The visitors took a 10-point, 21-11, lead on freshman guard Stephen Bernard's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) layup with 10:02 left in the first half.
 
 • The Mammoths went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to knot the game, 21-21, with 7:01 remaining.
 
• Amherst took a 32-30 lead on sophomore guard Chris Hammond's (Los Angeles, Calif.) three-pointer at the 2:53 mark. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by freshman guard CJ Wilson (Hartford, Conn.) would put RIC up by four, 42-38, going into the locker room at halftime.
 
• The second half was more defensively focused as both teams combined for just 14 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
 
• Back-to-back three-point shots from Tengbeh and senior guard KJ Uga (Hyde Park, Mass.) would put the Anchormen up by seven with six minutes remaining.
 
• RIC would hold its lead by connecting on its free throws in the waning minutes to secure the win.
 
• Junior guard Isiah McCallam (Orange, N.J.) registered 13 points and nine rebounds.
