Tariq Adio Scores in, 2-1, Setback vs. Worcester State

Providence, R.I.--Sophomore midfielder Tariq Adio (Providence, R.I.) scored his second goal of the season as the Rhode Island College men's soccer team lost vs. Worcester State, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Although RIC was outshooting the Lancers, 5-2, at the time, Worcester State was able to strike first on a penalty kick by sophomore midfielder Wilbur Garcia (Bilbao, Spain) in the 32nd minute.
 
• In the second half, a second yellow card to WSU junior forward Matthieu Bayonne (Springfield, Mass.) forced the Lancers to play a man down for the remainder of the match.
 
• On the ensuing free kick, junior midfielder Jesus Guarcas (Providence, R.I.) put a crossing pass into the box, which Adio was able to finish with a header to tie the game at 1-1.
 
• In the 62nd minute, the Lancers retook their lead with a powerful shot by sophomore defender Brendan Lower (Grafton, Mass.) for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
 
 • Lancer senior goalkeeper Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) made eight saves in the win (4-3-3). He stopped RIC graduate forward Braeden Cannon's (Cranston, R.I.) penalty kick opportunity in the 67th minute to preserve the lead.
 
• Junior goalkeeper Wesley Perrotto (Pembroke, Mass.) played in the second half, recording one save, in the loss (2-2-1).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East action at Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 21 (1 p.m.).
