Cannon and Granville Lead RIC Past UMass Dartmouth, 2-0

North Dartmouth, Mass.--Graduate forward Braeden Cannon (Cranston, R.I.) scored his second goal of the season in the 74th minute as Rhode Island College won at UMass Dartmouth, 2-0, in Little East men's soccer action played at Cressy Field on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• the two sides exchanged shots throughout the first half as neither side was able to gain the upper hand. In the 25th minute, RIC had multiple shots on goal, from both Cannon and freshman defender Jackson Fox (Portsmouth, R.I.), but the Corsairs stood tall and kept the game scoreless.
 
• Cannon's tally in the 74th minute was his second goal this season. Junior midfielder Jesus Guarcas (Providence, R.I.) registered the assist.
 
• Just a short time later, in the 79th minute, freshman forward Cody Granville (Wakefield, R.I.) kicked a shot into the upper left part of the goal to secure his fourth goal of the year and double the Anchormen's advantage. Sophomore midfielder Tariq Adio (Providence, R.I.) set the insurance marker up.
 
• RIC junior goalkeeper Jake Reed (Cumberland, R.I.) made four saves to post his third shutout of the year (5-1-3).
 
• Corsair sophomore goalkeeper Cole Travers (Somerset, Mass.) tallied six saves in a losing effort (0-2-2).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Coast Guard on Saturday, Oct. 14 (noon).
