Kidd's Second No-Hitter and Save Helps Softball Sweep Wolves

Providence, R.I.—Freshman pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) registered her second no-hitter of the season and also picked up a save as Rhode Island College swept a doubleheader (4-0, 5-3) from Western Connecticut at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• RIC sophomore center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) scored on a passed ball in the first and homered in the second to stake the hosts to a 2-0 advantage.
 
• Kidd helped her own cause with an RBI ground out in the third and doubled in another run in the fifth.
 
• Kidd did the job in the circle, earning her second no-hitter of the season with 10 strikeouts and notching her fifth win (5-6).
 
• Western junior starter Holly Golembiewski (Columbia, Conn.) took the loss (6-9).
 
GAME TWO
• After falling behind, 1-0, in the first, the Anchorwomen scored the next five runs to lead, 5-1, after five frames.
 
• Freshman left fielder Sarah Mickelson (New Milford, Conn) notched a two-run single in the fourth.
 
• The Wolves put two across in the sixth, capitalizing on a RIC fielding miscue, but were unable to close the gap.
 
•Kidd came on in the sixth and allowed just two hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts to secure her second save of the season. Freshman starter Morgan Collupy (Rehoboth, Mass.) struck out six in 5.2 innings of work and was credited with the win (2-1).
 
•WCSU freshman reliever Olivia Bordenaro (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) took the loss (4-2).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action with a doubleheader at Castleton on Saturday, April 23 (1 p.m.).
