Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, R.I.) hit a homer and notched a walk-off RBI fielder's choice as the Rhode Island College baseball team defeated Western Connecticut, 13-3, in Little East play on Monday afternoon at Pontarelli Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, paced by Grossguth's three-run home run into deep left field, to build an 8-1 advantage.

• WestConn and RIC traded runs until the fifth inning when the Anchormen scored two in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore center fielder
Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) and freshman first baseman
Daniel Trzepacz (Mont Vernon, N.H.) hit back-to-back RBI singles.

• RIC went into the home half of the seventh up by nine, 12-3, and needing one run to end the game early. Santerre reached on an error, advanced to second on a failed pick-off attempt and eventually beat a throw to the plate on Grossguth's grounder to third.

• Sophomore starting pitcher
Terry Murray (Norfolk, Mass.) went six innings, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run in a winning effort (4-1).

• WCSU senior pitcher
Justin Grullon (Washington Heights, N.Y.) took the loss (0-4).

• Santerre went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, stolen base, three RBI and four runs scored.
