Softball Falls at Plymouth State

Plymouth, N.H.--Freshman right fielder Paige Jones (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) doubled in a run as the Rhode Island College softball team dropped a doubleheader at Plymouth State (3-1, 6-0) in Little East action on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• With RIC down in the third, Jones hit a double that plated a run to tie the ballgame, 1-1.
 
• In the fifth inning, Plymouth State scored off of a pair of RIC errors and added a second run when senior catcher Emily Picard (Berlin, N.H.) singled down the left field line.
 
• Freshman pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) was saddled with the loss (4-6), while PSU sophomore pitcher Nicole Lebrun (Concord, N.H.) earned her fourth win (4-4).
 
GAME TWO
• The second game started off scoreless until the Panthers scored on another RIC fielding mistake in the bottom of the fourth. The hosts tacked on another run thanks to a sacrifice bunt by freshman designated player Mia Ly (Lowell, Mass.) to go up by a pair.
 
• PSU broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning by plating four runs. Picard and Ly each had an RBI in the frame.
 
• Freshman pitcher Morgan Collupy (Rehoboth, Mass.) picked up the loss (1-1). PSU sophomore pitcher Alyssa Wilson (Haverhill, Mass.) notched her third win (3-2).
 
• Sophomore center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) had a hit in both games, going a combined 3-for-7 and a stolen base.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at home vs. Western Connecticut on Tuesday, April 19 (4 p.m.).
