Kidd and Collupy Lead Softball to Sweep at Worcester State

Worcester, Mass.—Freshman pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) notched a shutout and classmate pitcher Morgan Collupy (Rehoboth, Mass.) earned her first collegiate win as Rhode Island College swept a doubleheader at Worcester State (1-0, 6-5) on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• Kidd was dominant in game one, hurling a complete game one-hitter and striking out eight to earn her fourth win (4-5)
 
• Sophomore left fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) broke a scoreless deadlock in the sixth with a leadoff single. She worked her way to third base and scored what proved to be the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
 
• Worcester State sophomore pitcher Emily Bartlett (Lowell, Mass.) took the loss (5-6).
 
GAME TWO
• Worcester State got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the second. Freshman shortstop Emma Lanpher (Charlton, Mass.) and Bartlett each knocked in a run with a base hit.
 
• RIC was not done fighting as freshman right fielder Paige Jones (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) smacked a game tying two-run double to keep the Anchorwomen afloat in the top of the seventh and force extra innings.
 
• In the top of the eighth, RIC brought home four runs as junior catcher Alexis Boyce (Wolcott, Conn.) delivered a big blow with a two-run single.
 
• The Lancers plated three runs in the home half of the eighth, but RIC held on for the sweep.
 
• Collupy went the full eight innings and picked up her first collegiate win (1-0).
 
• WSU senior pitcher Molly Glynn (Abington, Mass.) took the loss (1-3).
 
 WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East action with a doubleheader at Plymouth State on Friday, April 15 (3 p.m.).
