Anchormen Take Season Series With Southern Maine in, 83-73, Win

Providence, R.I.--Junior guard Shion Darby (Peekskill, N.Y.) scored a game-high 24 points as the Rhode Island College tamed the Huskies of Southern Maine, 83-73, in Little East men's basketball action played at the Murray Center on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC started the game up big thanks to a 12-0 scoring run mid-way through the first half to give the hosts a 26-12 lead. The Anchormen would hold the lead and head into halftime up by 13, 42-29.
 
• Southern Maine never led past early in the first half, but stormed back to make it a five-point game, 72-67, thanks to a layup from freshman guard Juneau Anicette (Orlando, Fla.) with 1:20 left in regulation.
 
• RIC went 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to ice the game, with sophomore guard Damian Tucker (Boynton Beach, Fla.) going 6-for-6 over that stretch.
 
• Darby also supplied the Anchormen with three rebounds and three steals.
 
• Senior guard Keyshaun Jacobs (Lynn, Mass.) scored 20 points on the evening to go along with five assists.
 
• Sophomore guard Jordan Riley (Windsor, Conn.) turned in another all-around performance, with 16 points, nine boards, four dimes and three steals.
 
• USM junior forward Marcus Christopher (Skowhegan, Maine) tied Darby for the game-high in points with 24. He also pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 44 percent (28-for-63) from the field, 42 percent (8-for-19) from downtown and 79 percent (19-for-24) from the free throw line.
 
• The Huskies shot 40 percent (27-for-68) from the field, 26 percent (8-for-31) from long range and 79 percent (11-for-14) from the charity stripe.
 
• Jacobs sits at 961 points for his career. He is just 39 away from reaching 1,000 career points.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at Keene State on Friday, Jan. 28 (6:30 p.m.).
