Luis Blanco Scores Twice as RIC Raises Win Streak to Four

Castleton, Vt.--Junior forward Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored twice as Rhode Island College notched its fourth straight win and shutout as the Anchormen bested Castleton, 4-0, in Little East men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior forward Jonathan Oliveira (Providence, R.I.) got the scoring started after he converted a penalty kick in the 36th minute. It was his team-leading fifth goal of the year.
 
• Blanco registered his first multi-goal game at the collegiate level, getting on the board in the 38th minute on a pass by senior midfielder Sa-Leem Kamarah (Providence, R.I.).
 
• RIC dominated the first half in shots (14-2).
 
• Blanco notched his second marker 16 minutes into the second half with his third of the year. Sophomore forward Samuel Talavera (Providence, R.I.) picked up the assist.
 
• Junior forward Joseph Scolaro (Bristol, R.I.) capped the day's offense with his first goal of the year in the 81st minute. Freshman midfielder Juan Barrios (Pawtucket, R.I.) was credited with the assist.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• Senior goalkeeper Charlie Tashjian (West Warwick, R.I.) made two saves to earn the win (5-2). He has not let up a goal in his last 356 minutes.
 
• Castleton junior goalkeeper Andres Soto Burgos (The Bronx, N.Y.) made six saves on the afternoon (2-6). Sophomore Jonathan Maul (Westwood, N.J.) finished the last 18 minutes of the match.
 
• RIC held a decisive advantage in shots (26-6) and corner kicks (7-1).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Sept. 29 (7 p.m.).
