Anchormen Improve to 2-0 With Shutout Win at Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn.--Senior Michael Shea (Greenville, R.I.) clinched the win with a straight set victory at No. 5 singles as Rhode Island College defeated Western Connecticut, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC sophomore Max Blais (Smithfield, R.I.) and Shea combined to defeat junior Jay Kilcourse (New Fairfield, Conn.) and senior Myckland Cothias (Danbury, Conn.) (8-1) at No. 2 doubles.
 
• RIC junior Alex Bourque (North Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Michael Crawley (Manville, R.I.) secured the win (8-6) at No. 1 doubles by downing WCSU seniors Will Hogan (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Matt Carino (Sandy Hook, Conn.).
 
• Western Connecticut sophomore Sebastian Frisch (Redding, Conn.) and freshman Mitchell Kindred (New Fairfield, Conn.) bested RIC senior Ethan Hoy (West Warwick, R.I.) and freshman Josh Brien (Johnston, R.I.) (8-4) at No. 3 doubles.
 
• Crawley defeated Frisch (6-0, 6-3) at No. 3 singles.
 
• Blais beat Carino  (6-1, 7-5) at No. 2 singles.
 
• Shea downed Kindred ( 6-4, 6-2) at No. 5 singles to clinch the win.
 
• Hoy outlasted Kilcourse ( 6-7, 7-6, 10-8) at No. 4 singles.
 
• Bourque came from behind to defeat Hogan (6-7, 6-3, 6-3) at No. 1 singles
 
• Freshman Jack Cadden (Mattapoisett, Mass.) downed Jerry Narcisse (Norwalk, Conn.) (6-1, 6-0) at No. 6 singles to close out the match.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at Southern Maine on Saturday, April 10 (2 p.m.).
