Men's Tennis Edges WestConn, 5-4

Providence, R.I.--Freshman Jack Cadden (Mattapoisett, Mass.) earned a straight set win at No. 6 singles to clinch a 5-4 victory for the Rhode Island College men's tennis team in Little East action played at the RIC Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC sophomore Max Blais (Smithfield, R.I.) and senior Ethan Hoy (West Warwick, R.I.) opened the day with an 8-2 win over WestConn senior Myckland Cothias (Danbury, Conn.) and junior Jay Kilcourse (New Fairfield, Conn.) at No. 2 doubles.
 
• RIC sophomore Michael Crawley (Manville, R.I.) and freshman Josh Brien (Johnston, R.I.) downed Western Connecticut freshman Mitchell Kindred (New Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Kevin Tenesaca (Danbury, Conn.), 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.
 
• RIC junior Alex Bourque (North Smithfield, R.I.) and senior Michael Shea (Greenville, R.I.) secured the doubles sweep with an 8-7 (7-3) win over seniors Aaron Campos (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Matt Carino (Sandy Hook, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles.
 
• Hoy put RIC up, 4-0, with a straight set (7-5, 6-0) win over sophomore Sebastian Frisch (Redding, Conn.) at No. 4 singles.
 
• The visitors then won three straight. Senior Will Hogan (Ridgefield, Conn.) defeated Blais (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) at No. 2 singles.
 
 
• Campos beat Bourque (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 singles.
 
• Carino bested Crawley (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3 singles.
 
• Cadden then won the match with a decision (6-4, 6-3) vs. Kilcourse at No. 6 singles.
 
• Tenesaca beat Shea (7-6, 6-3) at No. 5 singles in the final contest of the day.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at Castleton on Friday, April 23 (2 p.m.).
