Panthers Take Little East Opener From Women's Volleyball

Providence, R.I.--Freshman outside hitter Madison Dessert (Coventry, R.I.) led the way for the Anchorwomen with eight kills, six digs and one assist as Rhode Island College fell to Plymouth State, 3-1 (15-25, 7-25, 25-15, 14-25), in Little East women's volleyball action played at The Murray Center on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set was back and forth until the Panthers used a 15-8 run to capture the 25-15 victory.
 
• The first set was highlighted by PSU junior defensive specialist Hannah Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) who had three straight kills that sealed the set for the Panthers.
 
• The second set was dominated by the Panthers as they jumped out to a quick, 10-2, lead and eventually went on to win the set by 18, 25-7.
 
• Douglas again registered four straight points for the Panthers, while sophomore middle blocker Emilee Flanagan (Milton, N.H.), scored six unanswered points herself.
 
• RIC found its groove in the third set as they were able to take it the stanza, 25-15. Freshman outside hitter Madison Dessert (Coventry, R.I.) had four kills in the frame.
 
• The Anchorwomen found themselves in a 7-7 deadlock in the fourth set before the Panthers were able to rattle off a 13-2 run and take a commanding 20-9 lead and eventually win the match.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• Junior outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished with six kills, eight digs and a pair of assists.  
 
• Junior setter Wynter Conlon (East Walpole, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs.
 
• Sophomore outside hitter Cassandra Fairman (Springfield, Mass.) led the Anchorwomen with 13 digs.
 
• PSU was led by sophomore Natalie Gravelle (Portsmouth, N.H.) with 11 kills, while junior setter Nora Ryan (Groton, Conn.) finished with a game-high 29 assists.
 
• Junior libero Hannah Douglas (Rochester, N.H.) posted a game-high 14 digs.
 
• PSU hit .151 (40-22-119). The Panthers held the advantage in kills (40-24) digs (52-44) and assists (36-19).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at home vs. Eastern Connecticut on Thursday, April 1 (7 p.m.).
