Anthony & Dessert Lead Women's Volleyball in, 3-0, Setback vs. Warriors

Providence, R.I.--Senior right side hitter Eden Anthony (Cranston, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen with a team-high eight kills to go along with a pair of digs as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team fell to Eastern Connecticut, 3-0 (13-25, 21-25, 20-25), in Little East action played at The Murray Center on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first set started off with both teams trading points before the Warriors found their rhythm and exploded for a 15-4 run and eventually captured the set, 25-13.
 
• The Anchorwomen seemed to find their groove in the second set as they stayed neck and neck with the Warriors.
 
• Junior Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) knotted the score at 18 apiece with a kill, but the Warriors responded with five straight points of their own.
 
• The Anchorwomen cut the ECSU lead down to just three, 21-24, before eventually falling, 25-21.
 
• The third set saw neither side  able to build much of a lead. The Warriors climbed out to a four-point advantage, 13-9, but the Anchorwomen battled back and tied the score with a freshman outside hitter Madison Dessert (Coventry, R.I.) kill that was set up by junior setter Wynter Conlon (East Walpole, Mass.).
 
• The two teams traded points, but it was the Warriors who pulled away down the stretch to take the stanza by five, 25-20, and win the set.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• Murphy finished the night with five kills, six digs and a pair of service aces.
 
• Conlon had a team-high 17 assists, eight digs and two kills.
 
• Dessert added five kills and six digs.
 
• ECSU was led by junior middle blocker Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.) with a game-high 14 kills and a pair of digs. Senior outside hitter Abby Stern (Manchester, Conn.) contributed 12 kills and five digs for the Warriors.
 
• Junior setter Meg Verizzi (Lebanon, Conn.) handed out a game-high 29 assists, while sophomore libero Paula Perez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) registered a match-high 10 digs.
 
• ECSU hit .246 (49-20-118). The visitors held the advantage in kills, (49-23), assists (44-20) and digs (45-34.)
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at Keene State on Wednesday, April 7 (6 p.m.).
