Baseball Falls at Anna Maria, 9-5

Northborough, Mass.--Senior second basemen Nate Vigeant (Coventry. R.I.) went 2-for-6 with three RBI as the Rhode Island College baseball team fell to Anna Maria, 9-5, at the New England Baseball Complex on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC jumped on the board early, crossing two runs in the top of the second inning as Vigeant hit a ball back to the pitcher that scored freshman center fielder Cam Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) from third.
 
• The Anchormen increased their lead to four, 5-1, in the top of the fifth with a Vigeant single up the middle that scored both Santerre and junior right fielder Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, R.I.).
 
• AMC tied the score in the home half of the fifth, 5-5, thanks to a three-run home run by senior first basemen Noah Holland (Sandwich, Mass.) and a solo shot by junior shortstop Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.).
 
• AMC pushed across one run in the sixth and a pair of runs in the seventh to give the hosts a 9-5 lead over the Anchormen.
 
• Senior center fielder Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored for the Amcats.  
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC freshman pitcher Andrew Sears (West Warwick, R.I.) threw 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, to go along with one walk with six strikeouts. Sophomore reliever Colin Gauthier (Pawtucket, R.I.) hurled 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits to go along with three strikeouts.
 
• AMC threw eight different pitchers, who allowed five runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking 13 batters.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host New England College for a doubleheader on Friday, March 26 (noon).
