Roger Williams Takes Two From Softball

Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College sophomore shortstop Alexis LeBelle (Warwick, R.I.) went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored as the Anchorwomen lost, 10-2 (five innings) and 13-9, a pair of games vs. Roger Williams on Saturday afternoon at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
• The Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, which was highlighted by a freshman catcher Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.) RBI double.
 
• Howell singled in a run in the fourth to stake the visitors to a 4-0 advantage.
 
• RWU exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth as Howell once again contributed an RBI single.
 
• The Anchorwomen finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame as sophomore catcher Alexis Boyce (Wolcott, Conn.) and senior right fielder Erica Fluskey (Trumbull, Conn.) contributed an RBI single and sacrifice fly, respectively.
 
• RWU junior stater Lia Nocera (Tyngsboro, Mass.) earned the win (3-0), allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out six, in 4.1 innings of work.
 
• RIC freshman starter Caitlin Lopez (Cranston, R.I.) took the loss (0-1).
 
Game Two
• RIC bounced back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first in the nightcap on a freshman center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) two-run triple.
 
• Katz tripled in a pair in the second and Boyce came across on a wild pitch to help RIC take a 5-1 lead into the third.
 
• The Hawks got right back into the game on a three-run homer by senior shortstop Katrina Gori (Wyckoff, N.J.) in the top of the fourth.
 
• RIC led, 8-6, heading into the top of the sixth, but Roger Williams erupted for seven runs to go on top, 13-8. Senior left fielder Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) ripped a bases-clearing, three-run double and freshman center fielder Kasey Ruo (Smithfield, R.I.) knocked in two on a double in the stanza.
 
• RIC senior pinch hitter Reilly Clancey (Narragansett, R.I.) hit a solo homer in the seventh.
 
• RWU sophomore reliever Taylor Myers (East Haven, Conn.) picked up the win (2-0). Lopez took the loss (0-2) for the hosts.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• Fluskey went 3-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore left fielder Faith Turinese (Plainville, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with a run scored, one double and an RBI. Katz went 3-for-7 with a run scored, two RBI, two triples and a stolen base.
 
• Howell led RWU, going 4-for-6 with two runs scored, a double and three RBI. Junior first baseman Alex Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a homer and three RBI.
 
• Provencal went 2-for-6 with three runs scored, a double and four runs scored. Goria went 2-for-7 with three runs scored, a homer and four RBI.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play a doubleheader at Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, March 23 (3 p.m.).
