Gorham, Maine--Senior guard
Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, Mass.) led the way for the Anchorwomen with 24 points to go along with five rebounds, four assists and four steals as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team defeated Southern Maine, 62-53, at Hill Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A sluggish start to the game by both teams led to a low scoring opening quarter of the game. The Huskies took a slight one-point advantage, 11-10, into the second quarter.
• The Anchorwomen found their rhythm in the second quarter, using an 11-4 run during the final 4:45 before the halftime intermission.
• The Anchorwomen held a 31-23 lead at the halftime break.
• A fast start to the second half gave the Anchorwomen some breathing room, as they used a 9-0 run in the opening three minutes of the third quarter to give them their largest lead of the game (14), 40-26.
• Senior guard
Brooke Young (West Warwick, R.I.) drilled a jumper to push the Anchorwomen lead to 20, 48-28, with just over four minutes remaining in the third frame.
•The Huskies refused to give up as they cut the cut the RIC lead down to nine, 50-41, before the fourth quarter by using a 15-4 run following the media timeout.
• The Huskies continued the good shooting to begin the final frame by cutting the RIC lead down to two points, 50-48, before a Guerrier layup to end the dry spell for the Anchorwomen.
• Guerrier made the next three baskets for the Anchorwomen, pushing the lead to eight, 58-50, with just under 3:30 remaining in the game.
• The Anchorwomen were able to hold off any chance of a comeback from the Huskies, as they closed the door and sealed off the nine-point, 62-53, victory for their eighth win of the season.
• Young finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.

Izabelle Booth (Newport, R.I.) added eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Junior center
Willcia McBorrough (Providence, R.I.) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and chipped in with four points.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 45 percent (28-for-62) from the field, 19 percent (3-for-16) from beyond the three-point arc and 23 percent (3-for-13) from the foul line.
• USM shot 40 percent (20-for-50) from the field, 44 percent (4-for-9) from three-point range and 60 percent (9-for-15) from the charity stripe.
• RIC held a slight advantage on the glass, 36-35 and recorded 10 more steals than USM (16; 6).
