Brooke Young (West Warwick, R.I.) and
Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, Mass.) guided the Anchorwomen, as Guerrier notched a triple-double and Young scored a career-high 22 points, as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team defeated Castleton University, 63-38, in Little East action played at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams struggled to get the lid of the basket in the opening frame of the contest. Castleton held a slight two-point advantage, 7-5, at the media timeout of the first quarter.

• Young knotted the game at seven apiece with a jumper, following the media timeout, and a junior center
Willcia McBorrough (Providence, R.I.) layup gave the Anchorwomen the lead, 9-7, on the ensuing possession.

• Each side seemed to find a little groove towards the end of the quarter, but it was the Anchorwomen who held the three-point advantage, 14-11, at the end of the opening stanza.

• The Anchorwomen had a strong start to the second quarter with an 11-3 run over the course of the first five minutes to increase their lead to 12, 26-14.Â

• The Anchorwomen controlled the tempo the rest of the quarter and took an 11-point, 33-22, lead into the halftime break.

• Castleton started the second half with a run of its own, cutting the RIC lead down to just three points, 36-33, before a sophomore guard
Maire Gallagher (Worcester, Mass.) three-pointer sparked a momentum shift for the Anchorwomen.

• The Anchorwomen used a 9-2 run the remaining five minutes of the third quarter to take a 44-35 lead into the final frame.

• The Anchorwomen defense showed its strength in the fourth quarter, holding the Spartans scoreless for the first 4:21, while pushing their lead out to 16, 53-37.

• Young hit a jumper in the paint to give the Anchorwomen a 21-point, 59-38, lead with just over three minutes to play.

• Another three-pointer by Young gave her a
new career-high of 22 points. Young added two rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.

• Guerrier had an outstanding game as she registered a triple-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals.
The 10 steals is a new RIC record for a single game.

Antonia Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) chipped in with six points, two rebounds and a pair of assists.

• Castleton was led by senior guard
Brooke Raiche (Ira, Vt.) with 12 points and five rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 47 percent (23-for-49) from the field, 45 percent (9-for-20) from three-point range and 40 percent (8-for-20) from the foul line.

• Castleton shot 28 percent (15-for-54) from the field, 27 percent (4-for-15) from beyond the three-point arc and 57 percent (4-for-7) from the foul line.

• RIC held the advantage on the glass, 39-33, and recorded nine more steals (16; 7).
