Maire Gallagher Leads Anchorwomen Past Southern Maine

Gorham, Maine-- Senior guard Maire Gallagher (Worcester, Mass.) led a team effort as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team defeated Southern Maine, 64-56, in Little East action on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Southern Maine held a lead for most of the first quarter, going into the first break up by a pair, 17-15.
 
• Rhode Island College allowed a three-point shot to junior guard Megan King (Derry, N.H.) with 7:52 left in the second quarter. RIC did not allow another USM point for the rest of the half, ending the quarter on a 9-0 run. RIC led by six, 26-20, at the break.
 
• After heading into the final quarter with a 15-point, 46-31, lead, USM went on an impressive run of its own, scoring 12 straight to cut the RIC lead down to just three, 46-43, with 7:41 left in regulation.
 
• The Anchorwomen responded with yet another scoring run, led by sophomore guard Ashanti Frazier (Newington, Conn.). RIC led by 11, 56-45, with roughly four minutes remaining and would hold the lead until the final buzzer.
 
• Gallagher registered a season-high 11 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists off of the bench.
 
• Frazier scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high six boards.
 
• Junior guard Antonia Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen in scoring with a 13-point effort.
 
• USM senior center Victoria Harris (Atlus, Okla.) notched a game-high 13 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 40 percent (18-for-45) from the field, 27 percent (6-for-22) from downtown and 72 percent (22-for-31) from the free throw line.
 
• Southern Maine shot 31 percent (18-for-59) from the field, 27 percent (4-for-15) from behind the three-point arc and 67 percent (16-for-24) from the free throw line.
 
• The Anchorwomen shot 31 free throws, the second most this season (34 attempts vs. Bridgewater State on Nov. 23.).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at home vs. Keene State on Saturday, Dec. 11 (1 p.m.).
