Serena Forte Scores Team-Leading Sixth Goal in, 4-1, Setback at Southern Maine

Gorham, Maine--Freshman forward Serena Forte (Hope, R.I.) scored for the second consecutive game as Rhode Island College lost, 4-1, at Southern Maine in Little East women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Forte scored in the 12th minute off of a pass from sophomore defender Alyssa Silvestre (Warwick, R.I.). It was Forte's club-leading sixth goal on the season.
 
• The Huskies responded quickly, scoring in the 22nd minute, when sophomore defender Mia Sargent (Portland, Maine) rocketed one top shelf for her fifth goal of the campaign.
 
• In the 27th minute, USM sophomore forward Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) had a shot that was saved by RIC freshman goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz (Tolland, Conn.), but the ball came loose and Gould followed her own shot for her seventh marker of the season.
 
• The hosts kept the pressure on, scoring again in the 29th minute. Gould set up senior forward Ciera Berthiaume (Windham, Maine) for her 10th strike on the season.
 
• USM scored for the fourth time in a 10-minute span in the 32nd minute when Sargent ran in space and set up Gould's second goal of the contest and eighth of the campaign.
 
• The Huskies led in shots, 14-8, over the first 45 minutes.
 
• USM doubled RIC's shot total, 8-4, in the second half, but neither club scored.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• Kerecz stopped four shots in the loss (2-12).
 
• USM sophomore goalkeeper Bre Atwood (Franklin, Mass.) had four saves in her eighth victory (8-2-2).
 
• USM led RIC in shots (22-8), shots on goal (8-5) and corner kicks (4-2).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Fitchburg State on Tuesday, Oct. 19 (4 p.m.).
