Box Score Providence, R.I.—Senior guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) totaled 16 points, six boards and four assists to lead Rhode Island College past Eastern Connecticut, 61-49, in a battle of Little East women's basketball heavyweights on Wednesday evening at The Murray Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first quarter was close for the first seven minutes. Gauvin canned a three-pointer with 3:09 left in the opening stanza to stake RIC to a 10-7 lead.
• The Warriors embarked on a 9-2 run, paced by five points from senior forward Mya Villard (Cromwell, CT), to build a 16-14 advantage.
• Sophomore forward Anna Barry (Andover, CT) capped the frame with a layup with 22 seconds left as the visitors led, 18-17, after 10 minutes.
• The Anchorwomen opened the second quarter on an 8-0 win, paced by a freshman guard Maci Dorantes (Bristol, CT) three-pointer to go up by seven, 25-18, with 7:19 left. A Villard free throw brought ECSU within four, 30-26, with 44 seconds remaining, but junior guard Brooke Young (West Warwick, RI) cashed in a trey to close out the half with the hosts leading by seven, 33-26.
• A Young longball helped the Anchorwomen build their largest lead of 12 points, 45-33, at 5:47 of the third quarter, but the Warriors stormed back. Eastern systematically trimmed the RIC lead down to a mere two points, 45-43, on a pair of sophomore guard Julie Keckler (Trumbull, CT) with five seconds left. A Gauvin free throw sent RIC into the final frame with a 46-43 lead.
• Villard converted a layup with 4:14 remaining, to pull the Warriors within four, 51-47, but Dorantes answered with a trey and the hosts quickly built their lead back up to double digits and secure the season sweep.
• Young and junior guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, MA) each contributed 11 points, while senior forward Fataya Larry (Brooklyn, NY) hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.
• Villard led all scorers with 22 points, while Barry posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 36 percent (21-for-58) from the field, 38 percent (8-for-21) from three-point range and 69 percent (11-for-16) from the free throw line.
• ECSU shot 37 percent from the field (19-for-52), nine percent (1-for-11) from downtown and 56 percent (10-for-18) from the free throw line.
• RIC dominated the glass, 61-49.
