Castleton, Vt.--Junior forward Tim Deng (Portland, ME) posted 16 points, seven boards and three steals as Rhode Island College lost, 73-61, at Castleton in Little East men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Senior forward Benjamin Vezele (Providence, RI) finished with 14 points and 13 boards for a double-double effort. Freshman guard Shion Darby (Providence, RI) posted ten points. Senior guard Jonatan Batista (Providence, RI) had four points, seven boards and three assists.

• Castleton freshman guard Remy Brown (Boca Raton, FL) led all scorers with 21 points. Senior guard Demauriaye Smith (Oakland, CA) registered 19 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Nate Plaisted (Colorado Springs, CO) finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

• Castleton led, 38-27, at halftime.

• A Darby three-pointer pulled RIC within six, 55-49, with 9:18 left in the game. He canned a jump shot a minute later as the Anchormen got within four points, 55-51, of the hosts.

• RIC trailed by six, 64-58, after a pair of Deng free throws with 3:20 remaining, but that would be as close as the visitors would get as the Spartans held off the Anchormen to secure the upset victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 28 percent (19-for-67) from the field, 17 percent (6-for-36) from three-point range and 77 percent (17-for-22) from the free throw line.

• Castleton shot 51 percent (26-for-51) from the field, 42 percent (8-for-19) from three-point range and 81 percent (13-for-16) from the charity stripe.

• RIC led in rebounding, 42-35.
