Jacobs Leads Anchormen Past Castleton, 64-52

Providence, R.I.--Junior guard Keyshaun Jacobs (Lynn, MA) poured in 23 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team defeated Castleton University, 64-52, at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half began sluggish for the Anchormen as the visitors took an early nine-point, 11-2, lead in the first five minutes of action.

• The Spartans controlled the tempo for the first 12 minutes of the game before the Anchormen were able to climb within a pair of points, 20-18. 

• The Anchormen trailed the entirety of the first half. RIC shot 31 percent (10-for-32) from the field during the first half.

• Castleton finished the first half holding a two-point, 30-28, advantage on 56 percent (10-for-18) shooting from the field.

• The Anchormen were able to mount a comeback in the second half and take the lead with the help of a Jacobs trey, which gave the hosts a 35-34 lead at the 16:04 mark.

• RIC was able to hold the lead for the remainder of the game, with its largest lead reaching 12 points after another Jacobs trey. 

• Sophomore guard Deyshawn Tengbeh (East Providence, RI) provided 15 points, two rebounds, two blocks and a pair of assists off the bench. Senior forward Benjamin Vezele (Providence, RI) grabbed 11 rebounds, chipped in six points along and recorded  two blocks. Freshman guard Shion Darby (Peekskill, NY) added 11 points and four rebounds. 

• Castleton freshman forward Remy Brown (Boca Raton, FL) led the Spartans with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 34 percent (23-for-68) from the field, 25 percent (12-for-48) from three-point territory and 50 percent (6-for-12) from the foul line. 

• The Spartans shot 35 percent (17-for-49) from the field, 18 percent (3-for-17) from behind the three-point arc and 79 percent (15-for-19) from the foul line.

• CU held the advantage on the glass, 46-38. Both teams finished with nine assists on the day.

WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Southern Maine on Tuesday, Jan. 7 (7:30 p.m.).
