Darby's 42 Leads Men's Basketball Past Plymouth State, 91-79

Plymouth, N.H.—Freshman guard Shion Darby (Peekskill, NY) scored a career-high 42 points to go with three rebounds, three assists and one block as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team defeated Plymouth State, 91-79, in Little East action at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Both teams started off sluggish as the Panthers led by four, 6-2 at the first media timeout (15:48). Neither side was able to build much of a lead in the first half.

• The hosts held their largest advantage of six points, 16-10, with over 12:00 remaining in the half. The Anchormen were able to retake the lead, 30-28, with 2:58 left in the first half on three foul shots by junior guard Keyshaun Jacobs (Lynn, MA). RIC led at the half, 36-32.

• The second half began with both teams going back and forth. The Panthers fought to close the gap, but the closest PSU came was three, 50-47, at the 12:20 mark.

• Darby scored 32 of his 42 points on 10-for-13 shooting in the second half to carry the Anchormen. He also registered three rebounds and three assists.

• Jacobs poured in 23 points to go along with four rebounds and a pair of assists. Senior forward Ben Vezele (Providence, RI) recorded his fourth straight double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Jahden Erold (Boston, MA) scored six points off the bench.

• Senior guard Jaylen LeRoy (Manchester, NH) paced PSU with 17 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 49 percent (26-for-52) from the field, 32 percent (9-for-28) from three-point range and 73 percent (30-41) from the charity stripe.

• PSU shot 41 percent (29-71) from the field, 44 percent (10-for-23) from long range and 79 percent (11-for-14) from the foul line.

• RIC controlled the glass with a 44-32 advantage. The game was tied on three occasions and the lead shifted six times.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at MIT on Monday, Dec. 9 (7 p.m.).
