Women's Tennis Clinches Outright Little East Regular Season Title

Providence, R.I.--The Rhode Island College women's tennis team downed Southern Maine, 9-0, to win sole possession of the 2019 Little East Regular Season Championship at the RIC Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen clinched a share of the regular season crown with a 7-2 win vs. Plymouth State earlier this week. Rhode Island College has locked up the top seed, a first round bye and will have the homecourt advantage throughout the 2019 Little East Championship, which begins next week.

• RIC sophomore Michaela Burr (Westerly, RI) and junior Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, RI) defeated USM senior Gabby Brooks (Palermo, ME) and sophomore Ciara Richards (Caribou, ME), 8-0, at No. 2 doubles.

• RIC junior Serena Bobola (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Clara Siegmund (Pomfret, CT) defeated USM senior Eden Martin (South Portland, ME) and senior Tracy Edwards Cranston, RI), 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.

• Freshman Jenna Lisi (Cranston, RI) and junior Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, RI) defeated the USM tandem of senior Samantha Harden (Turner, ME) and sophomore Emma Nassif (Saco, ME), 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.

• Freshman Sarah Gonick (Kingston, MA) defeated Edwards (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6 singles.

• Burr defeated Nassif (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2 singles to clinch the win.

• Juniors Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, RI) defeated Richards (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4 singles.

• Junior Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, RI) defeated Brooks (6-2, 6-0) at No. 3 singles.

• Junior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, MA) defeated Martin (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 singles.

• Lisi defeated Harden (6-0, 6-1) at No. 1 singles.

WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host a semifinal round matchup of the 2019 Little East Championship on Thursday, Oct. 17. No. 1-seeded RIC will host the winner of No. 5-seeded Bridgewater State and No. 4 seeded Worcester State.
