Providence, R.I.-Sophomore forward Ornela Livramento (Pawtucket, RI) notched eight points and pulled down six rebounds as the Rhode Island College women's basketball suffered a 55-28 setback against No. 1-ranked Amherst in a non-conference contest played at The Murray Center on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• RIC junior guard Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) scored eight points to go along with three rebounds.

• Freshman guard Brooke Young (West Warwick, RI) notched six points and two boards in the setback for the Anchorwomen.

• Sophomore forward Cam Hendricks (Glastonbury, CT) led the way for Amherst with 10 points and nine rebounds.

• Senior forward Hannah Hackley (Westford, MA) registered 10 points, while sophomore guard Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, PA) notched seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds, in the win for the Mammoths.

• Amherst controlled the action early and took its first double-digit advantage of the contest when a layup by sophomore guard Madeline Eck (Rye, NY) made the score 15-4 with 2:24 left in the first quarter. The Mammoths took the 19-6 lead heading into the first intermission.

• The Anchorwomen chipped away at the lead in the second quarter and outscored the Mammoths in the stanza by a 12-10 margin, with Amherst eventually taking a 29-18 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

• Amherst added to its lead throughout the third quarter before taking the 45-21 lead after three quarters of play.

• The visiting Mammoths then cruised to the 55-28 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

• The 55 points scored by Amherst were the third lowest point total of the season for the Mammoths.

• Amherst, the defending NCAA Div. III National Champion, has now won 47 straight contests.

• RIC shot 23.3 percent (10-of-43) from the field, 28.6 percent (2-of-7) from the three-point line and 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from the free throw line.

• Amherst shot 34.4 percent (22-of-64) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from the three-point line and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the free throw line.

• Amherst outrebounded RIC by a 49-29 margin and forced the Anchorwomen into 16 turnovers in the contest.
